Whats the best niche?

Whats the best niche market that youve experienced? Has anyone hit one that is really profitable?

Hi, the best niche market I have ever hit is the one I am in now because I get a lot of traffic and a manageable amount of submissions. Its for the co.nr domain name and because it is so targeted to its topic, I am ranked in top 3 on "co.nr" for all search engines except yahoo. The only thing about it is its not very profitable because the domains are free and users might not have money, that's why its a free directory. The best thing is, Google gave me pr strait away and all the categories are pr4; see my sig.

Anyway, its not a very open niche because only three sites tried to "compete" and were quite literally fly by nights because they gave up in the first couple of days.

I think the best niches are basically the top level categories in general directories because they are all big but not to narrow eg "arts" directory and a "computers and the Internet" directory.

In term of niche, on the Internet do not have something called best or bad niche, it is depend of the service provided,and the customers demande.
Many of niches are going down, not because no customers but can not reach them, I mean should reach and find customers that love your product,
for directories I think if with specific topic will success for example can be directory of worldwide cooking (I am thinking of it

) or can be for worldwide hotels, I came across one website that the owner is selling dogs'names

Amazing. her website is in the main page of google adsense

Ive always wondered about this... i suppose that best method would be to start a general directory and see which category proves to be the most popular... it would probably be something like a directory related niche or a real estate niche (which i believe is rather popular - and definately where the money is).

I think it is better to choose niche subject that suits your interest, where you have good knowledge about it. So you'll have more 'passion' in your directory and you'll build your directory to be useful for you, for other users and if possible make it more than just 'backlinks' directory.

When it comes to niche directories seveneth I completely agree with your way of thinking. If someone is going to choose to start a niche directory it should be related to something you have a passion for, enjoy very much and have good experience and knowledge about.

This makes a winning combination for both directory users and owners.

How about local or regional directories?
Could still be a good market for regional ones.

In my view i rate a few niches by the following order -

Directory
Health
Regional

Health niche is a bit good and profitable, and this is from my experience.

I have one and it does rather nice for me.... ADULT

Though others try to walk in my footsteps they cant catch me..
