Default Is upgrading phpld easy?

I was just wondering.

Alot of the innovative scripts like Directory Script, Free Directory Software :: eSyndiCat Directory Software say that upgrading their script is as easy as a click of a few buttons.

How does stuff run in this phpld thing?

Is it easy to go from version x to version x.01 ........

does the template port pretty well or does it require some additional work on the end users part?

Let's take for example if I were to upgrade from version 3.00 to the latest version or the second latest release.

Can I just do it with a few clicks of the mouse button.

Does the template migrate naturally.

thx

I've yet to see a script that claims to be HARD to upgrade. They all make whacky claims. I can't speak for those I haven't tried but upgrading phpld can be a bit of a bitch if you don't know what your doing especially with the templates, but don't quote me on that, wait for one of the more qualified people from phpld to come along and tell you. Then if you wouldnt mind please come back and tell is if its true.

phpld is very easy to upgrade, and the templates are a breeze. The only tricky things are the mods, so the most important thing I can tell you is remember to "back-up" before you make any tweaks!

phpLD I have never had a problem with upgrading except as mentioned above the mods may need to be modified to work which is a pain. Also sometimes the templates need fixing also to work with new versions. Compared to other scripts I can not say as I have only used phpLD which is still great.

No offense lowster but the templates are only a breeze if you know what your doing, I know, I don't know what i'm doing and found them pretty tricky.

So, the script itself is easy to update.
Templates are pretty easy and everything is usually documented on the support forum.
Mods are the hardest part as you may not always find support.

There's plenty of support but un-insured and you nearly never know who really is behind the typing when it comes to giving them access to ftp so be warned on that one aspect.

Ok, so it looks like we have a consensus that:
1. The upgrade process is easy
2. Templates are pretty easy to upgrade, but involve a little more work
3. Mods can be a little trickier

Thanks for all the nice feedback about upgrading.

Very soon, we will have a system that also allows for mods to be more easily managed and tracked.

What you have David is a general consensus of TWO people that most of it is easy to upgrade, I found it very hard going from free to paid and was getting tucked up with charges by your help staff that's why I scarperred from your forum. If your honest with people its as hard as hell to upgrade the mods if you don't know anything about php or smartie and again when I asked for help I got the repeated reply that it would cost me XYZ amount for help.

What do you mean easy for the mods to be tracked?

Update is really easy for core, just a few steps.
You have to do some work for templates update and there are always a simple guidelines to do that. You will see one thread every time when phpLD release any new version.

If you are updating from an old version like v3.01 or so then you need to few more work to compatible it with latest version (v3.2).
