So one of my directories PHPLinkDir(dot)com has an Alexa rank of 591,456.. I have been told its good to have that but after researching it I still don't really know why, how or if it really is a benefit at all..

Yes, the Alexa traffic rank is a bit strange now.. As they're now retrieving their stats from "other sources" besides the Alexa toolbar it really seems more like estimation than reality.

Directories in general get a good Alexa traffic rank as they are very popular (particularly the higher PR ones).

Eventhough your rank is high in Alexa, it means nothing to your visit to your website...Ha..ha..

No you don't... because if it did then everyone (or smart people like me) would start using traffic exchanges to generate thousands of visitors to their site and increase their rankings in a very illigitamate way bad!
