Anyone else seeing this trend?

Are directories going the way of MFA, Proxy, and other site?

Is the recent Google shakeup causing the sudden urge to dump directories?

Questions one has to ask themself. I also see some of these more mainstream, well organized directories getting dumped. I can't believe the price tags I am seeing on these sites either. Frickin incredible prices and some if not most of these are damned sure not worth even a 1/10th of what is being asked.

Check these out:

Quality Well established Directory For sales (2005)

Minimum Bid: $100,000 BIN: $250, 000

Strong PR7 established authority site with a 100,000's backlinks
Minimum Bid: $50,000 BIN: $250,000

Genuine Paid Web Directory - PR 5 - 37k Alexa - Completely Unqie
Current Bid: $20,000 BIN: $35,000

Lots of other directories there for sale to with lower $$$ and $$$$ price tages but most look to be junk link farms.

I see that TopSeoDir.com recently sold for around $1500. I think that was probably a reasonable offer/bid. However the others listed above are way off base IMO

I have to admit that if I could make 30 or 120K a month in 'Independent Advertising', rather than my current 'nil', I'd probably hold onto the site. But, maybe the sellers have more lucrative ventures on which to concentrate.

On the other hand, maybe the 'what's your site worth' calculators need an update valuer attributable to 'backlinks' and PR. So. as tempted as I am to re-mortgage my home and pick up one of the above 'bargains', I think I'll adopt a 'wait and see attitude', or perhaps buy PHPLynx for $30; put it on 'bonehead.name' (only available 'bonehead' domain') and wait a few years until the site's value increases to a million or so.

Come to think of it though, the next web big moneymaker could be to build a 'what's your site worth' site and a bunch of domains and rig the site to give inflated values for those domains then sell them to the newest crop of rubes looking for 'web income while you sleep' types of opportunity.

Yeah...that's the ticket...gotta go.

Is it even humanly possible to earn 6k per month on a site that only averages 20k uniques a month

I think a lot of people with paid links directories are panicking at the moment and trying to unload them while there's still some confusion and before the next public PR update.

I don't recommend panicking, but I do recommend unloading a few of your directories if you have too many to handle.
There are ways to build a quality directory if you're in it for the long run and sacrifice some time and put in some effort.
John Scott has said before that his editors are adding quality sites which they themselves find on their own to the v7n Directory.
He has also made this post which I pretty much agree with.
For those of you who have absolutely no idea how to make a directory quality, maybe this thread can do something for you.

First of all, every one who has submitted to any of my directories has benefitted from it. Everyone on DP is out to do business. Maybe not you, but almost everyone.

Then why didn't you and your link-farm buddies do that from the outset? All of you over at DP slamming what you've called the Quick Buck Crew are a joke - those using the term are the real Quick Buck Crew - you're just trying to cloak what you do in an air of respectability. Fortunately (well, unfortunately for you), Google had no difficulty seeing through you.

I haven't participated in the QBC witch hunt because the ones who do are guilty of doing the same thing, only difference is that they have a lot of friends on DP while those on the list don't.

Frogengine was for sale 6 months ago, but thank to you no sale occured. no, froggy is NOT for sale now, I just got a new design and am going to stick around with it for ome time now!

Suggstion: Learn to quote.

How have they benefitted exactly? I know how they expected to benefit. I know how your directory and similar directories were marketed to fule those expectations. It's about PageRank and paid links. We all know that. Yeah, I get that all of you are suddenly trying to avoid any mention of PR and talking about advertising and traffic but get serious - what traffic?

They may well have benefitted from a bit of PR boost - I'd have to hear it from them. But that's about to end if it hasn't already ended. And you know that full well too.

You're right. I know a lot more about SEO than you do. You know a lot more about spamming and scamming but then that's not something I ever tried to learn.

I don't think you want to bring that up publicly, do you? That wouldn't end well for you if you really want to push it.
