Do you pay?
Hey,
When you pay for your link to be added to a directory, do you pay only if it’s a high PageRank or do you just do it to get the backlinks?
For me I would only pay if the directory in question had a high PageRank and I would also see some traffic back to my site form the link.
What do people think about some directories charging quite high amount to get your site listed?
What your view?

Paid web directories tend to have more budget that free web directories allowing them to let the web directory grow (marketing budget). And with free web directories you're link is at pages with dozens of other links. With paid web directories usually there are less outbound links. I personally don't buy listings at paid web directories just for pagerank.

For a new directory, I think its a good idea to buy a couple of links. I have a paid directory, bought links at other directory to get tranfic and I do advertise on adsense etc,
Positively

I have paid for a couple of links, but they had to be good directories and with promising PR and search engine friendliness. The problem is that you can't tell how much traffic they are going to provide though.

Hi,
It is hard but you will be able to check the server logs to see if you are getting hits form the sites you have added your link from.

Knowing how much traffic you are getting from site after you have paid and added your listing is not a problem. What I was meaning is that before hand, you are not sure on the potential traffic. I guess you could always check the Alexa estimates...

Hey,
Cheching Alexa is always a good idea but it is not always true.

That is true.. that is why I called them estimates. Not everyone uses an Alexa plugin or toolbar, probably more developers than anyone else.

Yes, I agree we should called then estimates and be very conservative with the results.

I only pay, if it looks like I would get a nice higher traffic spot than the free listing (if there is one).
