Exactly what Roman said, if the traffic is there, the information from the links that are listed in the directory are quality (which shows the owner or editors care about who they approve) are reasonable and acceptable in my view, then I would deffinently buy a link position, even featured for that matter.

Some directory owners go for free directories, but really don't get noticed at all. The best way to go is for a Featured Listing which should be bought from a directory that can give you a good PR from their site in which can provide you a trusting amount of hits.

Some internet users underestimate the value of some free directories these days

I dont have a budget as such so I always submit to free directories. I would not mind paying though if I knew I could get some decent traffic

SEO, that's why I pay! The more links the better ranking and the more traffic!

i pay if prices are extremely reasonable, pagerank is alright, links in search engines, indexed pages are good too. and also i look at the other sites the person behind the directory has and have a look at them... if its someone i know that will bring traffic to the directory etc.. i will
no way im going to pay $50 per year.... for a listing on page 5 of the cat that will get me 1 visitor a month and has a pagerank of 1

Good points there - I gues you should only pay for links that are of good value and will give you a return on investment. Do you charge for all your links?

i decided i will make the directory myself! by adding links i like manually
too many shit sites and spam with free links.

im slowly working on making it a resourse rather than a webmaster spam-hole

I suppose chargeing for links would be a good way to avoid spam but since I dont have pay pall or anything - I was thinking that I should make link backs forced sor then spammers cant just spam and leave. What do you think?

well it would work.. but honestly.. would you exchange links with a general directory if you had a site about flowers in india? i wouldnt
i might if it was a directory for flower sites only..

i probably will bring back free submissions on webspassage one day in the future but after i hire a programmer to make it harder for spammers.
