People who choose to be 'hobby' directory owners, and I mean this with the best of respect will never last the course as even hobby directories need funding some way.

i dunno bout you but i would rather have traffic than a couple a payerssince...
banners won`t get sold without you having traffic
adsense is useless and annoying(even for the owner) if you don`t have a regular stream of traffick
and you would only receive a part of the paid listing buyers as some do require a site to have at least modest traffick besides pr for them to consider buying a link
i earn like 5 bucks avarage per click on my adsense so i don`t care if they pay a listing but that is just me and everyoe his own game to that
