Keep in mind that this more traffic you refer to may only be passing through, although I believe you're saying you'd rather have more active traffic browsing your directory believing that this will increase the odds of sites being submitted?

Thanks,

admin

Your probably way off the mark here Zombie, (not a real on are you?) Most people in my long experience of directories are in it for the money whether it be via adsense, banner ads or paid linking. People who choose to be 'hobby' directory owners, and I mean this with the best of respect will never last the course as even hobby directories need funding some way.

But Kev, nowadays webhosting and domain registration is cheap enough for a hobbyist to setup a directory and no worry about funding.

I just think more traffic can only be a plus.

a website may as well not exist if there is nobody there to see it. The likes of Adsense as a means of funding would be rendered useless.
With regards to banner and text link advertising, If you have more traffic passing through, then you are able to offer advertisers more than just a bit of page rank, actual real visitors to their site.

i don't have a problem with traffic passing through. If someone finds a website or some sort of service they are looking for via my directory without submitting themselves, then that is fine with me. Afterall isn't that the whole point of a directory? Having submissions is great but i think getting the balance right between submissions and providing a service for surfers is important too

This is true a website may as well not exist if there's no one visiting it and of course the adsense ads will do little more than occupy web space.

That works for me, I mean with more traffic passing through your directory will certainly increase the percentage of banner and text link c**** throughs.

You know Zombie, you've made some valid points here and I believe they support your possition and reason for wanting more traffic visiting your directory.

Hello....

Paid directories only recieve 2-3 % of submittions of all visiters
Free directories are S P A Mmed more as they offer that magical suggestion
or word that drives hourds of traffic (FREE) is a strong word.

But thier are standerds that must be kept for anyone thinking of just going from free to paid...

1. Should have some type of existing PR
2. Should have an abundent source of backlinks built 1000+
3. Should have High Quality PR Backlinks pointing back
4. Should have Custom skin or look different then others
5. Should have Indexed pages 1000+
6. Should have already 1 or 2 Directories for Refrence of skillz he/she has..
7. Should be able to offer MORE features or EXTRA links

thats just a few but im sure you get the drift...

thx
malcolm

"But Kev, nowadays webhosting and domain registration is cheap enough for a hobbyist to setup a directory and no worry about funding." - Every minute you spend approving links costs you money....what kind of fun hobby is it to look at 500 crappy MFA sites a day?

Money isn't everything. If just 100 out of 600 sites is good, then it's worth it.
And rejecting one site won't take 1 minute. If you know what to look for, it's easy to spot spam sites.
