Hi, regarding the site wide links, I have heard the google is placing much less value on them and that sites might actually get penalised ofr having site wide links because google is still against anything that could through over the voting system.

It probably depends on what site you actually have the site wides on, having site wides on forums, blogs and that will always be good.

I'm having a similar quandary my regarding site wide links. I have slots available on my left nav, but have not recieved any offers. Honestly, I have no idea what to charge. Also, my directory is rather new, but is predicted at a PR4. traffic is not the greatest, but I have over 6,800 submissions.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I think that relevance and quality of the site linking to you is most important. Especially long term speaking. General directories may help a little here and there, but when a human editor comes along and decides you're one of the link buyers, you're not going to get the benefit you once have hoped/paid for.

As tom said, it just depends on the number of backlinks, any traffic help and strength of the page.. Also social bookmarking is another main part

And from my own mind, i try to check whether the domain is perfectly used or is just a dropped domain with all the pages indexed and all PR0. Dropped domain PR is of no use.

I would not consider a sitewide link on my site for less the $1000

Or you could ask Google to give you a quote, they love people like you so I'm sure they will give you something...lol.
