The blog post is free.

What they are offering is a very expensive link in a directory which is giving this industry a bad name. You are being offered "free" deep links (in the blog post) on a site which is going to get devalued. It must make perfect sense to some as its obviously a business model that works. And if you don't see anything wrong with it, take the plunge.

Alternatively there are submissions services that will submit your site to "free" directories for no more than 14 cents for each directory you get your site submitted to. But once again you have to ask yourself how long you can expect those links to last, that is if you get accepted.

What you need is a list of directories where you can add your site and where you have a odds on chance of seeing the resource grow. And those sort of sites don't come free. You pay to get your site reviewed. Anything else is just noise.
